Business management for building materials dealers

Cement, steel, sand, and tiles leave the yard on memory and paper too often. MaterialOS puts stock, sales, and udhaar on one phone ledger — hide purchase cost when staff bill, enforce credit when a builder account runs hot. Shaped inside a two-shop business in Kolkata.

What this is

MaterialOS for building-materials dealers is a cloud ledger for counter sales, stock across yards, and customer credit. It replaces notebook khata and WhatsApp coordination without pretending to file GST returns or replace your CA’s Tally books. Single-yard dealers start on Starter; the same product is ready when a second counter opens.

Shaped in a real BM shop

MaterialOS was shaped inside a family-run building material supplier in Kolkata — two shops, daily counter sales, and udhaar that could not wait for month-end. Calling the other yard at night was not a system. That origin is public; we do not publish named shop testimonials beyond that lock.

Signup today is building materials only. Other retail verticals show as coming soon in setup. We say that plainly so you are not surprised at signup.

We built MaterialOS because calling the other shop at 10 PM is not a system. Two counters need one ledger the owner can open on any phone.

Leave the notebook for cement and steel

Bags and tonnes move fast. When balances live in memory or a tired register, you find out late — often after a builder’s site already took more credit than you meant. One ledger keeps invoices, stock, and outstanding on the same numbers you can open on any phone. Start with the accounts that hurt; perfect stock counts can follow.

Hide cement and steel margins from the counter

Sales staff sell without seeing purchase cost. You set minimum rates; on Growth and Pro, below-margin sales can wait for your approval instead of leaking margin on the floor. Five roles ship on every plan: owner, manager, sales staff, inventory staff, and accountant.

Multi-shop stock without a night call

See stock and sales across shops from day one. Filter one location or roll up the business when you need the full picture. Start with one yard if that is how you run today — Starter is one shop. Growth raises the cap when the second counter is real.

Udhaar limits for builder accounts

Credit limits stop bills that would overshoot. Collections stay on the same ledger as invoices — not a separate notebook for every site engineer. FIFO maps payments to open invoices so partial collections do not leave the khata guessing.

How it works

  1. 1

    Sign up as building materials

Create the business on the building-materials path. That is the only vertical open at signup today.

  2. 2

Add shops, products, and who bills

Load cement, steel, sand, tiles, and the people at the counter. Assign roles so cost stays off sales screens.

  3. 3

    Set builder credit limits

Put limits on heavy accounts before the next busy morning. Staff hit a stop when a bill would overshoot.

  4. 4

    Hand registers to your CA

Export GST sales and purchase registers from day-to-day billing. MaterialOS does not file returns.

Plans and limits

Not a freemium khata app. Not a full Tally replacement. Does not file GST returns. Public origin is the Kolkata two-shop story only — no named customer testimonials published.

Questions

Can a single-yard dealer use MaterialOS?

Yes. Start with one shop on Starter. The same ledger supports a second yard later on Growth or Pro without changing products.

I still run on notebook and memory. Should I start on freemium instead?

Only if permanent free forever is the only requirement. MaterialOS is a paid ledger with a 30-day Pro trial. Leaving paper is in scope — freemium peers exist for free-only buyers.

Why building materials first?

That is the beachhead we ship signup for today. The product was shaped in a Kolkata BM business. Other verticals appear as coming soon in setup.

Will staff see my cement and steel landing cost?

Sales and inventory roles do not see purchase cost or margins. Owner keeps cost visibility. Growth and Pro add below-margin approvals.

Does MaterialOS file GST for me?

No. You get tax invoices and GST sales/purchase registers for your CA. Filing stays with your accountant.

Start with every Pro feature for 30 days.
